MARINA RINALDI LUXURIOUS PROPORTIONS
In a cosy upper east side art studio, the MARINA RINALDI collection was unveiled in a cloud of style and elegance. It started with champagne and hors-d’oeuvres among fine art works and mannequins adorned in a few exquisite pieces. By showtime, we moved into the sedate show-space and were seated on cushioned plexiglass chairs (a welcome treat from the uncomfortable planks of wood pretending to be benches at the other fashion week venues).
Hosted by celebrity stylist & author Susan Moses (The Art of Dressing Curves – Harper Collins) who welcomed guests, Susan guided us through the Marina Rinaldi journey – “The Marina Rinaldi brand has been one of my greatest inspirations. It’s creations of runway inspired garments with couture details in luxe original fabrics, sends two very profound messages: Every woman should have fabulous fashion options, and, grand style is beyond size,” said Susan. “For more than a decade, Marina Rinaldi has been a go to brand for me when styling celebrities and corporate clients, because it offers something stunning for every body type.”
Susan presented the fashion story in four sequences, representing the individual lines. First shown was `Marina Sport Collection’ which went beyond gym wear. The versatility of this collection was reflected in the cool easy pieces that were perfect for lunches or casual activities. The shoes, sneakers, handbags and scarves were all Marina Rinaldi creations making all the looks complete. Next up was the `Voyage Collection’ which also can be classified as resort wear. Susan explained: “This section represents the glamour and ease of vacation wear. Think of a Caribbean cruise or just a walk on the beach to watch the sunset, this is shown in shades of blue, softly hued pastels, stripes and florals.”
`Contemporary Business’ was next on the misc-en-scene. This group focused on the great style in sophisticated prints and patterns with a keen interest on detail. Susan reiterated the “new proportions and boldness.” Finally, we experienced the `Elegante’ Collection’ which is the hallmark of Marina Rinaldi Spring 2017. Superb fabrics and beautiful hand crafting were the key notes in this collection. “The coats and jackets shown were reminiscent of early Dior creations and the entire collection embodies the anti-conformist spirit of designer Elsa Schiaparelli,” noted Susan.
Marinda Rinaldi was founded in 1980, the name originated from the great grandmother of the Max Mara Fashion Group (brand is owned by the Max Mara Group) as a ready to wear plus size clothing line. Started by Achille Maramoth, who in 1850 owned a fashion atelier in Reggio Emilia, Italy. The brand now has 300 stores worldwide. In February 2012, actress Melissa McCarthy wore Marina Rinaldi at the 2012 Academy Awards Ceremony. The line is available at the Marina Rinaldi flagship store; 13 East 69th Street, off Madison Avenue in New York City and is sold at Saks’s Fifth Avenue (on line only).
