It’s not too late to get that special Christmas/New Year’s Eve/Holiday party dress, as designer Korto Momolu (pronounced Cut-Toe Mo-mo-lu) has a wide selection of dazzling holiday dresses and gowns on deck, ready for release. This `Project Runway All Stars’ runner-up and `Project Runway’ alumni, unveiled her seasonal specialties at Collection MoDA in Jamaica and they went over like the best Egg Nog of the season. Her high-end clientele lined up to snatch Korto’s one of a kind luxurious items at MoDA Market, the huge sales event that followed the runway show.
“I took a break from New York Fashion Week,” said the designer during a fashionedits.com exclusive. “This new collection, called `African Botanic Garden’ paid tribute to a friend and fellow `Project Runway’ partner, Mykhel Knight, who passed away a few months ago. So this was about starting over.”
Korto showed shimmer and dazzle in between black skirt suits with glistening blouses, she highlighted her evening pieces with her signature drapes and sequins, which all bore that special holiday allure. “I take simple cuts and give them dramatic details. They are truly timeless creations, and, my customers appreciate that and they come back year after year. They know that they’ll get noticed and they’ll stand out in a crowd. I also know what they like, so I’ll do pieces with them in mind, and, it never fails, they gravitate to those specific pieces. It’s kinda cool to bring them things that they’ll like,” said Korto. Moving forward, Korto said she’ll be paying more attention to her online sales.
