With Monsieur Christian Lacroix’s influence, Desigual is flowering into the harmonious bouquet of global influences it aspires to be. It’s still loud and youthful but the brash crassness of pre-Lacroix Desigual has been replaced by whimsy and feel-good cheer easy to market to a millennial crowd. Indeed Desigual has grown up like the market they serve.
Fall/Winter 2015 “show notes” describe the collection as an amalgam of no less than 12 themes from around the world- spanning from Asia to Africa to Renaissance Europe- masterfully anchored by M. LaCroix’s craftsmanship. Such a large recipe could easily have failed, but this time Desigual got it right. Desigual’s Fall exudes energy, sun, light, passion and the feel good spirit of a sun drenched landscape of flowers. Their cross cultural models, coiffed with springy, natural hair and smiling widely, offered the perfect framework for exuberant prints, cheerful colors and an explosion of references. Just as described by the house, masterful cuts and editing grounded the mix. Highlights included the vest of the season- a quilted star trooper fitted zipper number, sleekly cut trousers and folkloric sweaters.
