CUSHNIE ET OCHS REVIVE THE SPIRIT OF FRIDA KAHLO FOR SPRING SUMMER 2018 COLLECTION
From the first passage – a sleek corseted black mini dress, worn with daring over the knee, high-heeled boots embellished with colorful flowers, designers CUSHNIE et OCHS (Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs) set the tone for their collection that celebrated the spirit of Mexican painter Frida Kahlo. Her unconventional beauty, strength, softness, complexities, and toughness all came out in Cushnie et Ochs gorgeous dresses and gowns that flooded the massive catwalk, decorated in a lush garden setting. Kahlo’s signature updo hairstyle and dainty floral hair adornments were the accessories of choice on the cabine’ of stunning models who brought the collection to life. The designers also used this collection to launch their new shoe collection that was worn by the models as they strutted down the catwalk.
Cushnie et Ochs crafted their design business from basically body-conscious dresses with daring cut-outs. They are known for a sense of structure and a familiarity of the feminine form; nuances which they’ve constantly updated over the years. This season was no exception. Cushnie et Ochs shifted the needle even further, expanding on a dazzling floral theme inspired by Kahlo. Slim, body-hugging, knee-length dresses in pale pastels spiked with floral accents. Off the shoulder daytime dresses with bursts of florals and lavish tropical prints, in lots of pinks, yellow and rose-colored floral prints were all over the catwalk. Their bright florals, ruffle accents on hips and shoulders brought the whole collection into focus.
