Back to School with Redbubble
Tops on every kids’ Back To School List are backpacks, t-shirts, leggings, sneakers.
Covering all but the sneakers is Australian company, Redbubble with some of the best backpacks, t-shirts and leggings on the market. Their graphics are mind-blowing minus any vulgar inappropriateness. Sort of a brand for the kid who thinks. Most backpacks sold in the US tend to be commercial relying on unimaginative cartoon graphics, sickly pink and subliminally bad for girls’ egos or unnecessarily heavy, resembling the bottom of a sneaker. We love Frozen too but have gone a little cold on the over-proliferation of licensing characters. Redbubble’s bags are very well constructed of durable cotton with whimsical graphics of things like bicycling, diving, beast both real and mythical and other healthy kids fascinations. Our favorite was the tapestry bunny. Prices start at a quite affordable $30.
As for Rebbubble’s t-shirts and leggings you won’t find more unique clever graphics or quality in any other brand in their price range. They also make tanks which are equally great with Taylor Swift approved sayings like “Hell Yes, I am a feminist.” Men, women and children will enjoy their t’s and tanks while teen girls and their moms will dig the leggings. Choose from Japanese wood block prints, pandas riding terradactyls, lone tarradactyls and Screaming Female-style cartoons among others. You can feel the quality in the material’s weight and snap of compression. Rebuttal also has coordinating binders and stationary. We only wish they also carried socks.
Most girls want pink or purple sneakers. Adidas’s Performance Hyperfast EL K Running Shoe, $45, come in the right shades of both and will support little ankles in sport or play. Other girls shun pink like the plague and would be much happier with classic Converse Chuck Taylors in black, red or yellow and a pair of mini-Doc Martin boots. Steer your daughter to SuperGa.
Boys’ sneakers are tougher. They better be cool or your kids will not wear them. Currently Under Armour is having a moment. UA’s Clutch Fit Drive II and Jet styles are pretty stylish. The Micro G Torch is cheaper while still cool. If these are too pricey, Chuck Taylors are always cool. Be happy the Adidas Yeezy Boost 350s don’t come in kids’ sizes but brace yourself for the day they do.
